Dr. Robert Robinson, DVM, one of the "Founding Fathers" of Palms to Pines Branch AALAS, passed away July 28, 2006 after a brief illness.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret, his son, Doug and daughter-in-law, Erika, of Clements, CA, his son, Don and daughter-in-law, Carmen, of Lebanon, OR, his daughter, Joanne and son-in-law, Sean, of Huntington Beach, CA. He leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Born in 1925 in Corcoran, CA, Bob grew up in the small Northern California community of Etna, CA, where his father operated a flour mill. He graduated from Etna High School in 1943 and after discharge from the US Navy entered the entomology program at the University of California at Berkeley. After two years he transferred to the University of California at Davis, where he attained his Bachelor and Masters degrees in animal husbandry and a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1954.
After graduation he moved to Southern California where he specialized in large animal care at dairies throughout the Anaheim and Chino Areas. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Margaret Glen. Following the birth of their sons Doug (1959) and Don (1960), they moved to Riverside and started Victoria Animal Hospital. In 1968 they welcomed their daughter Joanne. In 1971 they built a new hospital facility, where Bob continued his practice until retiring in 1992.
In addition to growing his practice, he served as a member and president of the Orange Belt Veterinary Association, he was a lifetime honorary member of the California Veterinary Association and he served part-time for fifteen years as campus veterinarian at the University of California at Riverside.
Bob's second love was community service. He was a member of the Riverside Kiwanis Club for over thirty years, a member of the Casa Blanca Home of Neighborly Service, former president and board member of the Riverside Philharmonic Society, former president and board member of Town and Gown, a member of the Salvation Army Advisory board, former president and long time board member of the Riverside Humane Society, a member of the Riverside Men's Breakfast Forum, a former committee chairman of Boy Scout Troop 1, and most importantly served God as an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.
In retirement, Bob and Margaret were fortunate to travel extensively throughout the USA and world, but favored visits to play with their grandchildren. Bob lived a full and wonderful life and served as a role model to all; he will be sorely missed.
