*Q fever is a disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, a bacterium that affects humans and other animals. This organism is uncommon but may be found in domestic animals such as sheep, and spreads via aerosolization or contact with bodily fluids such as milk, urine, feces, vaginal mucus, or semen of infected animals.  Symptoms are typically flu-like in nature and often self-limiting, but can progress to complications such as hepatitis and pneumonia.  In pregnant women, the disease can cause fetal disease and death.  For this reason, any woman who is pregnant or suspects she may be pregnant should speak with her doctor before attending this workshop.
