Animal Welfare Specialist (100% Career)

DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent will be a member of a team of animal welfare specialists that enable UCSD to assure compliance with animal welfare regulations, guidelines, and policies through post-approval monitoring, review of animal use protocols, and communication with researchers regarding protocols, post-approval compliance issues, and other issues. The incumbent will also teach orientation classes, coordinate the IACUC semi-annual inspections and other regulatory inspections, and verify federal grants to animal protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Training or experience equivalent to B.S. in life sciences, CPIA, CMAR, ILAM, LATg or RVT; minimum 5 years experience in animal research or animal science; strong administrative and organizational skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; expert knowledge of complex federal, state, UC, UCSD, and local regulations, policies and procedures regarding the welfare of animals; demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, tact, and firmness with researchers and staff; demonstrated ability to make quick, informed decisions regarding complex issues.
Full Salary Range: $50,722 - $94,755 /year.
Hiring Salary Range: $50,722 - $72,739 /year
