ANESTHESIA – IT’S A GAS!

Join us for an exciting and informative presentation and workshop on anesthesia on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona campus!

We invite you to meet Jim Houts of Molecular Imaging Products Company for a comprehensive discussion of inhalant anesthesia systems (please see attached abstract and bio) followed by a hands on demonstration and workshop on anesthesia procedures in mice by Kristy Berry, RVT and Dr. Mathias LeBlanc, Clinical Veterinarian, Salk Institute.

This seminar will feature a comprehensive discussion of inhalant anesthesia systems including oxygen and/or ancillary carrier gas issues, capabilities and limitations of vaporizers, and intricacies of appliances used to administer inhalant anesthetics.

Focus will be on issues related to safety of not only the animal being anesthetized, but the operator of the device as well.  Also covered will be care, cleaning, maintenance, and self-test aspects of the system.  Emphasis will be given on definitions and names of components, function of components, and physical properties related to non-rebreathing systems, rebreathing systems, and mechanical ventilation of subjects.  In addition, waste anesthetic gas management, human health issues with respect to exposure in inhalant anesthetics, and OSHA issues will be discussed.  Examples of appliances used to deliver inhalant anesthetic will be presented.

Each attendee will be given a packet of relevant articles which will document some of the information presented.

This presentation is targeted for technicians, investigators, facilities managers, veterinarians, Ph.D’s, and all those interested in learning more about the mechanical properties of inhalant anesthesia systems.

There will be two session available.
