There is a celebration sponsored by AALAS to recognize laboratory animal technicians for their essential contributions as members of the research team. "International Laboratory Animal Technician week" this year will be from January 30 to February 3, 2005.
I am the Technician Branch Representative (TBR) for Palms to Pines AALAS. My job as TBR is to serve as a connection between National AALAS and laboratory animal technicians who work in the field.
I'm here to help in your effort to acknowledge every technician out there. The Palms to Pines Branch Board of Directors recently approved to provide 5 institutions with $50 dollars each towards the TECHNICIAN recognition events. The money could be used for pizza, game prices, special person hats, AALAS items (could be ordered on the AALAS web page) or anything to celebrate this week. The institutions that receive the monetary support would be asked to write a paragraph describing the celebration and how the $50 were used. Contact me for more information about this. There isn't much time left, so I hope to hear from you soon.
I strongly recommend that you get your investigators involved. If you need any suggestions contact me or Jill Worley at jill.worley@aalas.org. There is also a list of ideas on the AALAS web site (www.aalas.org). If you have any good ideas please share them with us.
The theme this year is TOUCHING LIVES WITH CARE.
Best wishes for the new year,
Jenny Arvizu
