| Job Description |
The Animal Facilities Coordinator ensures that the University's animal facilities are maintained and operated in a manner that complies with all local, state, and federal government regulations that apply to the housing of animals and the use of animals in research. Responsibilities involve performing specialized duties related to the husbandry of all species in the University Animal Facilities. This includes monitoring and participating in management of animal husbandry for rodents, assisting in the creating of standard operating procedures for the proper husbandry of bio-hazardous animals, observing animals for abnormalities, instituting and maintaining policies and procedures for census monitoring and documentation, maintaining records, and ordering animals and supplies. In addition, the Animal Facilities Coordinator conducts the on-going training of animal husbandry staff and monitors their work performance. The incumbent will participate in various training programs and perform para veterinary duties as directed by the Attending Veterinarian. |

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of animal husbandry of laboratory animals. Knowledge of federal regulations and policies for animal care and use. Ability to train and supervise other facilities staff, faculty, and students in the care and use of the facilities, equipment, and in animal procedures. Ability to perform various para-veterinary procedures. Able to lift 50 pounds. Proficiency with Microsoft computer software applications. Must possess excellent English written and verbal communication skills. Must be a team player and willing to accept new assignments and challenges with enthusiasm. Must be able to prioritize assigned duties and work efficiently. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university’s commitment to a “vision of excellence.” |

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Equivalent to four years of experience working within animal facilities desired. Bachelor's degree in a related field is strongly preferred and may be substituted for two years of experience. A combination of closely related college level coursework and/or related work experience will be considered.College level course work or extensive experience in the field including supervisory experience preferred. Registered Veterinary Technician strongly preferred. Certification at the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) level or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATg) level preferred. |
